Yarn used knits as super chunky to this tension: 11 sts and 15 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over garter st using 7mm needles; 1 rep of Fern Lace Rib (20 sts) measures 16cm.

Cast on 146 sts using 7mm needles and Yarn A.
Knit 7 rows.
From now on the first and last 4 sts will be worked in Yarn A, and the sts in between worked in Yarn B. Use the intarsia method, using a different ball of Yarn A for each end, twisting the yarns where they meet Yarn B.
Set up row (WS) K4B, P to last 4 sts in Yarn A, K4B.
Row 1 K4B, work Row 1 of Fern Lace Rib pattern to last 4 sts, K4B.
Row 2 K4B, work Row 1 of Fern Lace Rib pattern to last 4 sts, K4B.
Last 2 rows set pattern placement for garter stitch edges and Fern Lace Rib pattern.
Cont to work in patterns as set, working through Rows 1-10 of Fern Lace Rib pattern until Blanket measures approx. 100cm from cast-on edge, finishing on a Row 10.
Break Yarn B and continue in Yarn A.
Knit 6 rows.
Cast off.
