Is the Janome Memory Craft 6700P easy to use?

The Janome Memory Craft 6700P is a technical marvel. For users unfamiliar with computerised sewing machines, we thought the detailed instruction manual and instructional video were invaluable resources.

Clear Setup Guidance

The manual, with clear step-by-step instructions and illustrations, helped us to grasp the machine's functions and capabilities.

While the setup was more complex than basic domestic machines, the effort paid off, especially when we tested with large sewing quantities.

Bobbin and Needle Threader

We found the drop-in bobbin easy to place, but the built-in needle threader posed a challenge initially. Patience was key to mastering it.

User-Friendly LCD Display

The LCD display made accessing essential information like mode, stitch pattern, foot, stitch width, tension, and length, easy.

We made adjustments using the keypad and jog dials on the front, and we used the direct pattern reference window to simplify stitch selection.

Speed and Convenience

Capable of 1,200 stitches per minute, the machine offers three speeds adjusted via a simple slider. We found changing feet effortless, and loved the one-touch buttons that streamline frequently used functions.

How well did the Memory Craft 6700P perform?

The Janome Memory Craft 6700P delivered stellar results on both heavyweight and lightweight fabrics. It’s worth noting, adjusting the tension slightly improved the outcome for intricate decorative stitches.

Impressive Buttonhole Options

This machine excels in creating buttonholes for various fabrics, making it highly versatile and a dressmaker's dream. We enjoyed experimenting with the nine buttonhole types, including three keyhole variations.

Comprehensive Foot Collection

We tested out the standard accessories like the zigzag and automatic buttonhole foot, but you could go even further by pimping out your machine with a zipper foot, rolled hem foot, blind hemming foot, and button sewing foot. These optional extras cater to specific needs, offering flexibility.

Creative Stitching Options

We were spoilt for choice by the extensive stitch selection, including decorative stitches and alphabets in five fonts. The Memory Craft 6700P allows for the the most diverse creativity!

Programming pattern and letter combinations into memory proved straightforward, which was a handy feature for embellishing multiple projects.

We liked the stitch reference chart at the back, which allowed us to make a quick selection from the 200 available stitches.

Enhanced Workspace

The generously large extension table provided valuable extra workspace, which was especially beneficial when handling large quantities of fabric for quilting or curtain projects.

The measurement guides embossed on the table added to its utility, while the separate storage box allowed us to keep feet, bobbins, tools, and accessories neatly organised and easily accessible during our sewing session.

Sturdy Design

Weighing 11.5kg, the machine is robust. However, it's not designed for portability, making it less suitable for those attending sewing classes. Also, we thought the machine's plastic dust cover felt somewhat cheap in comparison to its overall quality and price, but this is a minor concern.

Where to buy the Janome Memory Craft 6700P

JANOME MC6700 1

Our verdict: Should you buy the Janome Memory Craft 6700P?

If you’re a serious or professional sewist then this machine is most certainly worth the investment.
Well built, it has lots of space to manipulate bulky fabrics when sewing. we love the thoughtful touches, like the large foot pedal, stitch pattern memory function and knee lifter, which make life easier if you do a lot of sewing.

The huge range of stitches and feet mean you can tackle any sort of sewing task with ease and the results will look highly professional.

It benefits from a two-year warranty which will give you peace of mind if you rely on your machine for work.

However, it’s a pretty heavy machine and not really designed to be portable.
