I'm sure we've all had our run-ins with refillable cartridge pens - stained fingers and blotted schoolbooks probably ring a bell. But what about a refillable fineliner?
Tom's Studios brings this innovative idea to life. Tom was inspired to start his business after watching his wife Gemma use a plastic, mass-produced calligraphy pen.
It didn’t match the quality of her beautiful work, so Tom, with his background in furniture and product design and experience working in a blacksmith's forge, decided to craft a pen that she would love to use every day.
Tom's Studios now offers a huge range of quality, refillable writing tools, from classic calligraphy pens, to writing pens, to fountain pens. And, of course, fineliners.
We put the Lumos Pro infinitely refillable fineliner and brush pen to the test in our review. Read on to find out why its our new favourite thing!

We evaluated ink flow on different paper types, noting any skipping or bleeding, and tested the felt brush tip for calligraphy.
The pen's durability was assessed through multiple refills, nib changes, and ink colour switches.
We also considered the ergonomic comfort during extended use and examined the luxurious, eco-friendly packaging.
Finally, we compared its cost to similar pens to determine its overall value and sustainability.

Ease of use - 4/5
When I first opened the Lumos Pro Duo, I was a bit confused by the instructions. The idea of an 'infinitely refillable' pen sounded amazing, but the setup process seemed a little daunting at first.
Thankfully, the instructional video that came with it made everything much clearer. Once I got the hang of it, dipping the reservoir into the ink and watching the fibres saturate was oddly satisfying.
The Lumos Pro comes with 11 tips for all writing needs - fineliner tips from 0.1-1.0mm, plus chisel, bullet, and brush felt tip options, as well as two writing tips in o.3 and 0.5mm.
Setting up the fine liner tip was straightforward, but the felt tip required a bit of a push, which had me worried I might bend it. It all worked out in the end, but there was a slight learning curve.
Ink flow - 5/5
Using the Lumos Pro is an absolute pleasure. The ink flows beautifully, with no skipping, bleeding, or ghosting on the page.
Every line is even and crisp, whether I'm using the fine liner for precise details or the felt brush tip for more expressive strokes.
The felt tip, in particular, is a brush with just the right amount of flex—perfect for those who enjoy handwriting-style calligraphy.
The ink itself is smooth and luxurious, making each writing or drawing session feel special.
Performance - 5/5
One of the best features of the Lumos Pro is how easy it is to switch ink colours. You can simply rinse the fibre and dip it into another bottle of ink, and you're ready to go.
The nib holder is a thoughtful touch, allowing you to change tips without getting ink all over your fingers.
The pen performs exactly as advertised, with all 11 tips delivering consistently high-quality results. Whether I'm writing, sketching, or doing calligraphy, the Lumos Pro delivers on all fronts.
Ergonomics and aesthetics- 5/5
The pen itself feels luxurious in hand. It has a good weight to it—not too heavy, but substantial enough to feel like you're using something special. It comes in a range of colours - grippy matte black or satin-finished Sage, Lilac, Ivy, Raspberry or Blush.
I opted for the double-ended version, and I love how versatile it is. You can unscrew it in the middle, rotate, and re-screw to use the other side, either as a full-length pen or in half-size mode. It’s a clever design that adds to the overall experience.
The packaging was truly luxurious, yet designed with sustainability in mind. Everything was made from recyclable paper or cardboard, and minimal at that, arriving in a small, well-thought-out package.
The presentation was beautiful, with wonderful fonts and designs on the instructions that added to the overall appeal.
Even the bottles of ink are gorgeous, exuding a luxurious, artisan vibe that makes the entire experience feel special from start to finish.
Value for money - 4/5
Overall, the Lumos Pro is a fantastic pen and great value for money. The fact that it’s refillable makes it even better, especially for someone who cares about sustainability.
Although the Lumos Pro may seem expensive upfront, it's an investment that will pay off over time. Consider that a pack of Sakura Pigma Micron fine liners, which offers less than half the nib options of this pen, would cost around £10.
With the Lumos Pro priced at £95, if you're a consistent user, you'll quickly recoup your investment through its durability, versatility, and the savings from not needing to purchase disposable pens or replacements.
With its versatile design, high-quality performance, and eco-friendly appeal, it’s worth every penny. This pen would make an amazing gift for any eco-conscious art lover or anyone who simply enjoys a high-quality writing instrument.
If the price still seems a little steep, why not opt for the Lumos Pro Single, at just £59?
