'I always travel with my knitting' Tom Daley reveals his travel hacks
Tom Daley is sharing the knitting and crochet love once again, revealing in his latest Instagram reel how he gets his knitting needles through airport security.
Daley who's been recently announced as host of the brand new Channel 4 show The Game of Wool, isn't new to the knitting needles. Just before Christmas he visited Japan to put on an exhibition of his knitwear under his brand, @madewithlovebytomdaley.
On the flight to Japan, he shared his knitting and crochet, saying: 'This is what I finished on the flight,' before showing off a gorgeous knitted red jumper, a granny square sun hat, and a cute granny square baby jacket.
In his latest reel, he's shared his top tips for taking your knitting and crochet kit onto the plane without any issues. Daley says: 'TSA doesn't have a problem with wool because it's soft and squishy.' He adds, that knitting needles are the real question.
According to the TSA, knitting needles are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags. In other guidance, the TSA also states: 'You are permitted to keep scissors smaller than 4 inches in your carry-on baggage.'
Fans are loving Tom's tips, and sharing their own @mariaznichol said: 'I take the tips off my interchangeables (wooden) put stoppers on to keep the knitting in place and pop the tips in my pencil case. They’re basically pencils anyway….'
While @scarey78 said: 'I generally take socks to knit on flights on bamboo needles (I feel like they are less threatening than metal)'
And @caroja_crochet shared how security is sometimes just curious: 'I always take my crochet on my travels, once had a lovely lady security guard go through my bag and said ‘hey I crochet too, what ya making’ spent nearly 15 minutes chatting about crochet 😂'
If you want to pass the time on your flight make sure to pack your knitting needles!
Tom then shows us his knitting kit, which includes interchangeable needles, darning needles, and scissors in a cute little case. He also shares a clever tip for those who aren’t comfortable taking scissors in their carry-on: bring dental floss. The built-in cutter works perfectly for yarn, and there are no restrictions on floss – genius!
His final top tip: if you're nervous about bringing your kit through security, simply let the TSA agent know beforehand.
Finally, in Tom's words: 'happy travels, and happy knitting!'
