What you’ll need to make the wooden butterfly keyring
- 14-count white aida – 10x10cm
- Stranded cotton
- Size 24 tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Pliers
- Pencil
- Craft glue

Step 1
Once you’ve completed and pressed your finished stitching, turn it over and place the inner disc centrally on the reverse side. Hold it up to the light to ensure it’s positioned central with the stitched design.
Step 2
Lightly draw a pencil line around the outside of the inner disc onto the back of your fabric, and then another line approx. 1cm (¼in) away. Cut out the fabric around the outer line, then snip small slits between the two pencil circles, approx. 1.5cm (½in) apart.
Step 3
Apply strong glue around the edge of the inner disc and place it on top of the reverse side of the fabric, lining it up again with your inner pencil circle. Fold over the edges of the aida to stick down onto the glue.
Step 4
Press firmly to stick down, and allow the glue to dry completely before continuing – you could use small pegs to hold it in place.
Step 5
Place the inner disc with your stitching into the mini hoop, then insert the bolt through the holes at the top and through the small jump ring on the keyring, then secure with the nut. You may find this easier with pliers. (If your jump ring isn’t attached to your keychain, do this first by threading it through the last link in the chain and gently squeeze the loop closed.)
Step 6
Apply small blobs of glue to the ‘petals’ of the backing disc, and press firmly in place on the back of the hoop until dry. Your pretty keyring is now complete!
