Finding a hat that kids want to wear can be a challenge, but we think this fun pom pom hat knitting pattern is a winner. Great for both boys and girls, it’s quick to knit up in chunky variegated yarn. Why not make a few in different colours? You could get creative with the pom poms too!

If you don’t have a pom pom maker, you can create your own using two doughnut shapes cut from a piece of cardboard. Give your finished pom pom a trim to neaten it up, and remove any stray threads before sewing it onto the hat.

Our pom pom hat knitting pattern was designed by Kirstie McLeod and first appeared in Simply Knitting magazine issue 139.
