There are only so many knits we can give to lucky friends and family, but have no fear! Loving Hands is here to help pair all your lovingly hand-crafted creations with the charities that need them the most.
Visit the HQ of Loving Hands (a spare room turned into a donations room by a supportive husband) and you’ll find the brain and brawn behind the whole operation, Kate Gaunt, surrounded by boxes and boxes of handmade gifts.
Kate encourages volunteers to send donations directly to charities if they can and recommends checking out their charities list at www.lovinghands.org.uk to find one for you.
“There are always people who have a wide variety of things that they've made, though,” she explains, “and it would cost them too much to send to lots of different places, so these are the parcels that come to me at Loving Hands HQ.”
If you’re raring to go, needles at the ready, but just can’t choose from Loving Hands' long list of worthy charities, then why not join one of their challenges? Take a look at the forum at www.lovinghands.org.uk to find out what's going on right now and chat to other charity knitters.
