This clever DIY camera strap acts like a camera strap cosy, slipping over the strap to add a little padding, as well as a splash of colour, and the cable pattern is perfect for showing off the shades in variegated yarns. the DIY camera strap would make a great gift for the budding photographer in your life, be they make or female (we don't want to say this one is just for men) – or spoil yourself with a DIY camera strap, too!

This pattern uses our standard knitting abbreviations and crochet abbreviations. It’s written in UK metrics but it’s really easy to convert – just check out our yarn weight conversion chart and guide to knitting needle sizes. Find out how to knit with double pointed needles with our guide.

Tension

Yarn used knits as DK to this tension: 22 sts and 30 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 3¾mm needles. To find out more about tension, check out our knitting tensions squares article.

Measurements

To fit camera strap approximately 75cm long by 7cm wide when slightly stretched

Knitted camera strap

Cast on 34 sts using 3¾mm needles, distribute the sts evenly over three needles and join to work in the round, taking care not to twist the sts.

Set up round (Sl1, K3, P2, K6, P2, K3) twice.

Round 1 (Sl1, K3, P2, C6B, P2, K3) twice.

Round 2 (K4, P2, K6, P2, K3) twice.

Round 3 (Sl1, K3, P2, K6, P2, K3) twice.

Round 4 (K4, P2, K6, P2, K3) twice.

Round 5 As round 3.

Round 6 (K4, P2, K6, P2, K3) twice.

These 6 rounds form the cable pattern.

Rep pattern until strap measures 72cm or desired length, ending with round 2 of pattern.

Cast off in pattern and weave in all ends.
