These are perfect patterns for any hookster looking to kit out their child's room or win over thier neices and nephews this Christmas. However, if you're looking for patterns with step-by-step tutorials to cater to beginners then this book might be a little too challenging.

Pros:

Super-sized patterns - Clear images - Step-by-step instructions - Good value

Cons:

Not suitable for beginners - No walkthrough images

An Overview

I’ve read a lot of books featuring amigurumi patterns and this one certainly has its own charm. The patterns are well-written and they look easy enough to follow, although I wouldn’t recommend this to a beginner. Some of the patterns would have benefited from step-by-step images to guide you through the trickier sections.

There are 14 patterns in total, all of which are designed to be super-sized - measuring up to 90cm tall when using the suggested yarn weight. The styling has a whimsical feel, with a small dose of childhood nostalgia. If you're looking for animal makes or large plushies then this would be a good pick.

What's included?

Huggable Amigurumi has the full written patterns for 14 large animal toys. They vary from domesticated pets to underwater sea creatures. Our favourite has to be Zippy the Zebra, with their happy face and fluffy fringe, this would make an amazing addition to any nursery. Plus the striped pattern is sure to keep your attention - who doesn't love some colour changes?

At the back of the book, there is a full list of abbreviations for all the stitches and techniques used. Be aware, all the patterns are written in US terms. Have no fear, you can use our handy conversion chart if you're used to using UK crochet terms.

Our Verdict of Huggable Amigurumi by Franziska Pfoser

Overall this book is definitely good value if you're hunting for large animal patterns, with an RRP of £16.99. With 14 full-length patterns, each pattern comes in at less than £2. However, the book has a slightly limited appeal. If you're looking for amigurumi books to add to your crochet library there are other options available with more variety to their patterns.
