Children can never have too many teddies, and we never get tired of making them either, so this free crochet teddy bear pattern by Lucy Pollock is a winner all round! Dressed casually in a stripy pom-pom hat, cute scarf and denim dungarees, our crochet teddy bear has a modern feel while still looking like a traditional ted underneath. Working in the round, you use double crochet and simple increases and decreases to bring him to life – it’s easier than it looks! You’ll also need just four shades of Stylecraft’s great-value DK yarn for this adorable crochet bear. For those of you who are relatively new to amigurumi, you can find some handy tips and tricks in our How to crochet amigurumi guide.

- Black (1002)
4mm crochet hook Embroidery needle Stitch marker Toy stuffing Pins (optional) 2 x 12mm black safety eyes 2 x black/brown 9mm button
Measurements
Approx. 31cm (12in) tall
Tension
Tension is not important for this project, but make sure your stitches are tight so the stuffing does not show through.
Notes
The body is worked first and the dungarees are slipped on after. Construction starts with the first and second leg, which are then joined and you will then continue on making the body and head of the crochet bear in one piece. Placing the straps and buttons is easier when teddy is actually wearing the dungarees.

Using scissors, trim off the loops. Trim the pom-pom to make it more circular, making sure to leave a long piece of yarn to sew to the hat.
Scarf
Using Plum, start off with a length of long yarn to help sew in the ends afterwards.
Ch 61. Round 1 Dc in 2nd chain from hook, dc in each st across. Ch1, turn. [60 sts] Round 2 Dc in each st across, ch1, turn. [60 sts] Round 3 Repeat row 2, but don’t ch1 and turn. Fasten off, leaving a long tail of yarn to sew in ends.
To make up
Attach mouth to the head and stuff evenly before sewing it completely (use your pins to help keep it in place whilst sewing). Using black yarn, sew your nose in the middle of the mouth piece, going back and forth in the same stitches to create the nose. Then make a line down to create the mouth part. Using the same yarn, create two eyebrows above the eyes. Secure well to the back of the head where the hat will be placed so you will not be able to see the black yarn.
Attach ears to the hat. If you are sewing the hat to teddy’s head, you can sew the ears through the head too, but make sure you attach the pom-pom on first. Sew any loose ends to tidy up.
Sew any loose ends on the dungarees. Sew buttons to 1 side of the straps. Place button in buttonhole, pull strap over to shoulder and criss cross to the other side of the back. Do the same to the other strap and secure the back straps by sewing them to the dungarees. This works best when the dungarees are being worn by the bear so you can place the straps in the right place. Sew loose ends on scarf. Tie the scarf to the teddy’s neck, sew in place if you wish for it to be not taken off.
