A year round look, this hearty lace crochet sweater pattern works just as well over a little vest top on cool summers day as well as over a long-sleeved tee when the clouds come in.

You don’t need a chart for this nifty number – enjoy the two-stitch pattern and working with this versatile yarn. It’s a perfect weekend project. This lace crochet sweater pattern can be worked in UK size 8-22.

  • A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook
  • A 3.75mm (US F/5) hook

17 sts and 8 rows measures 10x10cm (4x4in) using a 3.75 mm hook over stitch pattern

Notes

The Jumper is worked in separate pieces from the bottom up.

There are two stitch patterns: the main heart pattern is called Panel B, and it is bordered on both sides by a short pattern called Panel A.

Lace sweater - back

Using a 3mm hook, ch86 (96: 104: 112).
Row 1 (RS) Tr in 4th ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [84 (94: 102: 110) sts]
Row 2 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), ch1, skip st at base of ch and next st, tr in next st, (tr in next st, ch1, skip next st, tr in next st) repeat to end (last st: end: last 2 sts) tr in last 0 (1: 0: 2) sts, turn.
Row 3 Ch3, tr in each st and ch to end, turn.
Change to 3.75mm hook.


Establish pattern

Row 1 (WS) Ch3, tr in next 23 (28: 32: 36) sts, work Panel A, Row 1 of Panel B, Panel A, tr in rem 26 (31: 35: 39) sts, turn.
Row 2 (RS) Ch3, tr in next 24 (29: 33: 37) sts, work Panel A, Row 2 of Panel B, Panel A, tr in rem 25 (30: 34: 38) sts, turn.
Cont in patt until work measures approx 52 (53: 54: 55)cm ending on a WS row.**
Work 2 rows in patt, using next row of patt for first row, and Row 8 of Panel B for second row.


Shape shoulders

Next row Ss across first 8 (9: 10: 11) sts, htr in next 8 (9: 11: 13) sts , tr to last 16 (18: 21: 24) sts, htr in next 8 (9: 11: 13) sts, ss across remaining sts, fasten off.


Front

Work as for Back up to **, working the same number of rows as the Back up to this point.


Shape neck first side

Row 1 (RS) Ch3, tr in next 22 (27: 31: 35) sts, tr2tog over next 2 sts, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [24 (29: 33: 37) sts]
Row 2 Ch2, tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), tr in each st to end, turn. [23 (28: 32: 36) sts]
Row 3 Ss across first 8 (9: 10: 11) sts, htr in next 8 (9: 11: 13) sts, tr in each rem st to end, fasten off.


Shape neck second side

Skip centre 34 sts and rejoin yarn in next st with RS facing.

Row 1 (RS) Ch2, tr in next st (counts as tr2tog), tr in each st to end, turn. [24 (29: 33: 37) sts]
Row 2 Ch3, tr in each st to last 2 sts, tr2tog, turn. [23 (28: 32: 36) sts]
Row 3 Ch3, tr in next 6 (9: 10: 11) sts, htr in next 8 (9: 11: 13) sts, ss in last 8 (9: 10: 11) sts, fasten off.


Sleeves

Using a 3mm hook, ch44 (48: 52: 56).
Row 1 (RS) Tr in 4th ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [42 (46: 50: 54) sts]
Row 2 Ch4 (counts as tr, ch1), skip st at base of ch and next st, tr in next st, (tr in next st, ch1, skip next st, tr in next st) repeat to end (last st: last 2 sts: end), tr in last 0 (1: 2: 0) sts, turn.
Row 3 Ch3, tr in each st and ch to end, turn.
Change to a 3.75mm hook.


Establish pattern

Row 1 (WS) Ch3, tr in next 2 (4: 6: 8) sts, work Panel A, Row 1 of Panel B, Panel A, tr in rem 5 (7: 9: 11) sts, turn.
Row 2 (RS) Ch3, tr in st at base of ch, tr in next 3 (5: 7: 9) sts, work Panel A, Row 2 of Panel B, Panel A, tr in each st to last stitch, 2tr in last st, turn. [44 (48: 52: 56) sts]

Cont working in patt, increasing by 1 st at each end of every foll third row until there are 60 (64: 68: 72) sts.

Cont in patt without increasing until Sleeve measures 45cm.


Shape sleeve top

Row 1 Ss across first 8 sts, dc in next st, htr in next st, work in patt to last 10 sts, htr in next st, dc in next st, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [44 (48: 52: 56) sts not including ss]
Row 2 Without counting ss from previous row as sts, ss across first 8 sts, dc in next st, htr in next st, tr in each st to last 10 sts, htr in next st, dc in next st, turn leaving rem sts unworked. [28 (32: 36: 40) sts]
Row 3 Repeat last row fasten off. [12 (16: 20: 24) sts]


To make up your crochet sweater pattern

Sew shoulder seams.
Work 1 round of dc evenly around neck opening.
Sew in Sleeves and sew side and underarm Sleeve seams.
