If you’ve heard the buzz lately around having your own pizza oven and want to know the best pizza ovens available in 2024, then you’ve come to the right place!

Fancy giving a DIY pizza oven a go? We also round-up our favourite ideas for building one yourself!

While we love a shop-bought pizza cooked in our kitchen ovens, there’s something sublime about biting into a beautifully risen, baked-to-perfection slice that’s ready in under a minute.

Crispy and deliciously oozy at the same time is the aim, and that’s what a dedicated oven will help you achieve!

You can still enjoy your ready-made pizza of course, and it will probably taste even better, absolutely no sogginess here!

But the real joy comes from creating your own, starting with the dough base and building up with your favourite ingredients.

Are you a tomato sauce fan or do you prefer yours plainer with a white base? Whatever your preference, you’ll never look back!

Why are pizza ovens better than normal ovens?

The reason a specialist oven produces a tastier result is that it heats up to at least 450℃.

That’s why your Hawaiian or margherita takes around 60 seconds to cook rather than the standard 10 minutes in your home oven.

The majority of indoor pizza ovens tend to be compact and will simply plug into an electric socket in your kitchen. However, a handful are much larger (think restaurant-style) and are wood-fuelled.

Think about the space you have, the type of taste you’re after and how long you want to wait for your oven to heat up and cook your pizza to perfection.

Which fuel type should you choose?

Outdoor pizza ovens can be electric, wood-fired, gas or a combination. It’s really up to you which one you choose.

Electric ovens are great for indoors of course as they simply plug into a socket in your kitchen. Some portable models can also be used outdoors. They’re easy to clean but can take longer to heat up.

Wood-fired ovens will give your pizzas that distinctive and desirable wood-smoke taste but can be a pain to clean (all that ash that needs sweeping after each use) and also take a bit of practice controlling the temperature.

Gas ovens are easier to keep clean than wood-fired ovens and are generally easier to control the temperature.

Multi-fuel ovens give you the best of both worlds. Go for gas if you want results in a hurry, or wood-fired when you want to pull out all the stops for a leisurely get together.
