Summary
How we tested
We put several craft lights through their paces, judging them on five main things: brightness, functionality, design, portability, and value for money.
Armed with a light meter app, we checked how bright each light was from 50cm away and matched it up against EU indoor work lighting standards. We played around with different lighting modes in various craft setups, tweaking angles and positions to see how each one shone (or didn't!).
We also gave the design a good once-over, considering both how aesthetically pleasing it looked and how comfy it was to use, plus how easy it was to transport to different crafting areas.
Finally, we sized up the bang-for-buck factor by comparing each light's features and performance to its price, to see which ones really gave the best value for money.

Brightness- 4/5
I was impressed by the brightness of this lamp, although it wasn't as bright as some others on test. The 21.5 x 5.5cm lamp head is fitted with a panel of LEDs, which combine to get a pretty bright light in Daylight mode.
Native Lighting claim this lamp provides 2900 lux at 30cm, but I only manage to get a max of 2300 lux. However, I used a light metre app on my phone to measure the brightness, which may not be as accurate as their testing equipment.
Temperature | Min brightness | Max brightness |
---|---|---|
Warm | 300 | 1100 |
Cool | 370 | 1300 |
Daylight | 550 | 2300 |
I also measured the brightness at 50cm, as I found it to be a more realistic distance while using the lamp. Here are the results:
Temperature | Min brightness | Max brightness |
---|---|---|
Warm | 140 | 440 |
Cool | 160 | 500 |
Daylight | 240 | 870 |
Either way, it's a bright light, just not as bright as the 7200 lux of the Serious Readers High Definition Floor Light. However, depending on your intended use, this may not be a problem - and if budget is your priority, this is a great choice!
Portability - 4/5
This is a great lamp for picking up and repositioning around the house. At just 1.79kg, its extremely lightweight, so its easy to move around.
However, I would go as far as to say it feels borderline a bit flimsy, and could be knocked over quite easily.
Functionality - 4/5
The Native Lighting Lumina floor lamp has plenty of functions for all sorts of brightness preferences. With five colour temperature options, as well as varying brightness levels, there's something for everyone.
You can adjust the settings on the touch panel on the stem of the lamp, or via the handy remote control. This is a great inclusion for easily browsing the available options, or when you're out of reach of the touch panel. However, it's worth noting that the remote doesn't come with batteries.
Assembly was very easy - you just screw the base plate onto the end of the stem, pull the wire taught through the middle section. It comes pre-threaded, so you don't have to worry about feeding the wire all the way through.
However, I received outdated instructions which referred to a hex wrench that wasn't included, and the assembly didn't make much sense. They wanted me to put a nut and washer below the base, which would've meant the base wouldn't be flush with the floor.
After corresponding with support, I uncovered that they were in the process of redoing their instructions to make them much simpler. I discarded the unnecessary bolt and washer and proceeded with the very simple job of just screwing the stem into the base.
Design- 3/5
This lamp is designed with practicality in mind, featuring a slim profile that fits seamlessly into a variety of spaces. Its modern appeal makes it a stylish addition to contemporary decor.
However, despite its sleek design, the lamp feels a bit flimsy. The materials used don't convey the same sturdiness and premium look that you would find in more expensive options. While it serves its purpose well, it lacks the aesthetic charm and durability that might be expected from higher-end alternatives.
Value for money - 4/5
With an RRP of £125.99, this lamp offers good value for money. It performs reliably, staying upright and allowing you to bend the neck without it slipping. All the buttons and functions work as expected, ensuring a hassle-free user experience. While there are cheaper options available, they are likely to underperform.
However, in comparison to more expensive models, it does feel a bit flimsy. The materials and build quality don't quite match the sturdiness and premium feel of higher-end lamps. But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for!
