The ever-so-talented Heather Nugent shows you how to make a Halloween wreath using a few simple materials. It's easy to follow and quick DIY, making it the perfect weekend project. Her moon-shaped wreath is the perfect balance of spooky and sweet with its faux flowers and mini spider.

This Halloween wreath can be completely customised too. Choose flowers and card in your favourite creepy colours to create a wreath which suits your Halloween party theme.

How to make a Halloween wreath: step by step

Materials you will need to make your DIY Halloween wreath

  • Wired wreath vine garland and string (or a pre-made rattan moon wreath)
  • String
  • Newspaper
  • Matt black spray paint
  • Black card
  • Scissors
  • Sticky tape
  • Invisible thread
  • Pink glitter card
  • A selection of dried and artificial flowers
  • Hot glue gun

Step 1

Begin by forming your vine wreath garland into a crescent moon shape, then tie it with string to hold it together.


Step 2

Go outside and protect a surface with newspaper, then spray the wreath with black spray paint.


Step 3

Spray the paint on all sides, cover it entirely, and then allow it to dry.

Step 4

Cut out the larger spider template, trace it onto your card and then cut it out. Bend the spider slightly to give it a more 3D feel.


Step 5

Use sticky tape to attach a length of invisible thread to the back of the spider and then tie it onto the wreath so it hangs inside the crescent.


Step 6

Cut out a few star shapes from the pink glitter card.


Step 7

Arrange your flowers, leaves and stars on your wreath and use a glue gun to stick them into place.

You can customise your DIY Halloween wreath however you like. For a more witchy-feel use cream, purple and green flowers. You could also create a more vampire-inspired wreath by using black and red faux roses.


Step 8

Use the glue gun to create web-like strings of glue inside the top edge near the spider.

Your DIY Halloween wreath is complete! Add more creepy decorations like bats, skulls or mini pumpkins into your Halloween wreath for extra spooky points.
