We've also included a fabulous free crochet ghost motif pattern which you'll find further down this post, as well as three petrifying projects that you can use it with.

You will need
- Any white DK yarn (you could try Paintbox Yarns Simply DK 100g/276m)
- A 2.5mm (US B/1 or C/2) hook
- Safety eyes
- Toy stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch marker

Notes
The crochet ghost pattern is worked using the amigurumi method. Work in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch.
Place a marker in the first st of each round and move it up as you work.

Free amigurumi ghost crochet pattern
Head
Using White, make a crochet magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st), 8dc into loop. [8 sts]
Round 2 2dc in each dc around. [16 sts]
Round 3 (1dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc) 8 times. [24 sts]
Round 4 (1dc in next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc) 8 times. [32 sts]
Rounds 5-12 Dc in each dc around.
Body
Round 13 (Dc in next 2 sts, dc2tog) 8 times. [24 sts]
Round 14 Dc in each dc around.
Round 15 (make armholes) Dc in next 8 dc, ch3, skip 3 dc, dc in next 9 dc, ch3, skip 3 dc, dc in next dc. [18 dc and 2 ch-3 sps]
Round 16 Dc in next 8 dc, dc in back loop only of next 3 ch, dc in next 9 dc, dc in back loop only of next 3 ch, dc in next dc. [24 sts]
Rounds 17-21 Dc in each dc around. Place eyes 5 sts apart between Rounds 9 and 10. Stuff Head and upper Body firmly.
Round 22 (Dc in next st, dc2tog) 8 times. [16 sts]
Rounds 23-25 Dc in each dc around.
Round 26 (Dc2tog) 8 times. [8 sts]
Rounds 27-29 Dc in each dc around.
Lightly stuff the lower Body.
Round 30 (Dc2tog) 4 times. [4 sts]
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Arms
Join White in front loop only of first skipped dc of one armhole.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st), dc in front loop only of same st and front loop of next 2 skipped sts, rotating ghost to work in the round, 2dc in front loop only of each of next 3 ch. [9 sts]
Rounds 2-5 Dc in each dc around.
Round 6 (Dc in next st, dc2tog) 3 times. [6 sts]
Round 7 Dc in each dc around.
Lightly stuff the Arm.
Round 8 (Dc in next st, dc2tog) twice. [4 sts]
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat for second Arm.

If you're just making up this free crochet ghost pattern as it is, we'd recommend using some DK yarn and a 4-5mm hook, but please be aware that the extra pattern options provided below include different yarn weights and hook sizes.
The first 3 rounds of the crochet ghost pattern are worked in a spiral without closing off each round with a ss.
Head
Make a crochet magic loop
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 6dc into loop. [6 dc]
Round 2 2dc in each dc around. [12 dc]
Round 3 *Dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc; repeat from * around. [18 dc]
Round 4 Dc in next 8 dc, (htr, ch3, ss to 3rd ch, htr) in next dc, dc in next 9 dc.
Body
The body is worked directly onto the head in rows.
Row 1 Dc in next 2 dc, ch6, turn.
Row 2 Ss to 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, htr in next ch, 2tr in next ch, tr in last ch, 2tr in next dc, tr in next 3 dc, ch3, ss to same st as last tr worked, ch6, turn.
Row 3 Ss to 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, htr in next ch, 2tr in next ch, tr in last ch, ss to top of ch-3, do not turn.
Row 4 Ch1, dc in top of ch-3 and next 5 tr, turn. [6 dc]
Row 5 Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in next 4 dc, 2dc in last st, turn. [8 dc]
Row 6 Ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 4 dc, dc2tog, turn. [6 dc]
Row 7 Ch1, dc2tog, dc in next 2 dc, dc2tog, turn. [4 dc]

You will need
- Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic, 100g/295m), 1 ball of each: Fiesta (1257), Citron (1263), Jaffa (1256), Bright Green (1259), Turquoise (1068)
- A 5mm (US H/8) hook
- Black felt for features
- Fabric or PVA glue
Measurements
Each ghost measures 15cm (6in) tall
Bunting
Following the basic crochet ghost motif pattern, make 8 ghosts in varying colours using a 5mm hook and 2 strands of yarn held together.
Features
Using the image as a guide, cut out two eyes and a mouth from the black felt for each ghost. Glue them onto each ghost.
To make up
Using 2 strands held together, make a chain 15cm long, ss to top of the first ghost. Continue making the chain, adding a ghost every 15cm. Finish with 15cm of chain to string your bunting up with.
Free crochet ghost pattern - cake toppers
You will need
- DMC Satin Thread (100% Rayon), 1 skein of each: Fuchsia (S602), Orange (S741), Green (S471)
- A 1.75mm (US 6/7) hook
- Cocktail sticks
- Black felt for features
- Glue
Measurements
Each ghost measures 6.5cm (2½in) tall
Cake toppers
Following the basic crochet ghost pattern, make 1 ghost in each colour using a 1.75mm hook.
Features
Using the image as a guide, cut out two eyes and a mouth from the black felt for each ghost. Position them carefully and once you’re happy, glue them onto the ghosts.
To make up
Glue each ghost to one end of a cocktail stick.
Free crochet ghost pattern - keyring
You will need
- DMC Satin Thread (100% Rayon), 2 skeins of Blue (S995)
- A 1.75mm (US 6/7) hook
- Black felt for features
- A key ring
- Glue
Measurements
Each ghost measures 6.5cm (2½in) tall
Ghost key ring
Following the basic crochet ghost pattern, make 1 ghost using a 1.75mm hook. Lay your ghost shape right side up on the black felt. Carefully cut around the ghost shape, leaving a border of approx 5mm. Glue your ghost shape right side up on the black felt shape.
Features
Using the image as a guide, cut out two eyes and a mouth from the black felt. Position them carefully and glue them onto the head of the ghost.
To make up
Secure the key ring to the ghost’s head.
